After Building Runway 3, Soetta Airport Will be able to Serve 114 Flights/Hour

JAKARTA, – The construction of the third runway and east cross taxiway will improve the flight services at the (Soekarno-Hatta) Soetta Airport. Once completed, the airport’s capacity will increase to 100 million passengers per year.

The traffic of the flights will also increase to 114 aircrafts per hour from currently 81 per hour.

“The bottom line is that the current capacity of Soekarno Hatta which is 63 million will be increased so that we can accommodate more than 100 million. Or in craft movement, it will increase from 81 per hour to 114,” said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi at the Soekarno Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Sunday (4/15).

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) Muhammad Awaluddin said the construction of the third runway requires 216 hectares of land area. However, the totaled land plots have been acquired so far reached 115 ha.

“The remaining 101 ha are still under process. Our calculation is that we will finish the land acquisition in August or September 2018,” he said.

Awaluddin added that the construction works will be done in parallel. The plan is that the construction of the third runway will be started by the end of April.

According to Awaluddin, the construction of runway will take 16 months. Thus, the runway will be completed around August next year.

“The construction of the runway will need 16 months. Our estimation is the parallel construction of the runway and taxiway will be completed in July or August 2019,” he said. (DTK/TPP)
