MRT Routes to be Extended to Rawabuntu or Cisauk in South Tangerang

JAKARTA, – Entering the final stage of the construction of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), Corporate Secretary of PT MRT Tubagus Hikmatullah revealed the next plan of additional route of Jakarta-South Tangerang.

The MRT will not end at the Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, but it has been planned for extension to Rawabuntu in South Tangerang.

The route extension, Tubagus said, has been agreed as a priority by the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, the South Tangerang City Government, the Transport Management Agency of Jabodetabek (BPTJ), the Ministry of Development Planning or the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), and PT MRT.

“They also have seriously discussed and explored the possibility to construct the MRT route of Jakarta-South Tangerang under the scheme of Government and Business Entity Cooperation (KPBU),” he told reporters at City Hall, Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (3/14).

Related to that matter, the South Tangerang City Government, according to Tubagus, asked that the MRT route would reach Rawabuntu or Cisauk, South Tangerang. The proposal has been submitted to the Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, and is currently under review.

“The route is still being reviewed to find the best way whether to Rawabuntu or Cisauk. In two weeks we will make a visit to Depo Lebak Bulus to check on the project and welcome the arrival of the MRT new trains from Japan,” he added.

“There is no target yet regarding the timeline for the route extension, but we are ready to do it as railway transportation is more effective and favored by the people,” said Tubagus. (TRB/TPP)
