President Jokowi Targets to Build 300 Suspension Bridges Next Year


MAGELANG, – Before heading to Cirebon, President Joko Widodo stopped by at the Mangunsuko suspension bridge, in Mangunsuko Village, Dukun Subdistrict, Magelang District on Monday (9/18). The 120-meter bridge connects Mangunsuko Village with Sumber Village, Magelang Regency.

After learning first-hand the construction of the bridge, the president, who was accompanied by PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, said he was satisfied with the works done by the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry. He said many regions need such a bridge.

“Thousands of bridges needed both in Java and outside Java. This year we only build 70s, but next year we are targeting at least 300 and increase it year by year. We have received thousands of requests to make the bridges like this,” he explained.

The construction of the bridges will be urged. Therefore, the remote areas can be accessed easily while the mobility of people and goods can be more effective and efficient, said Bey Machmudin, Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat.

“This can be passed through by the vehicles. Of course, the mobility of people and goods will be faster. Without the bridge, we have to go around for tens of kilometers,” said the president.

In addition to inspecting the Mangunsuko suspension bridge, the president also received the report on the low-cost apartments project in Magelang Regency. He also signed the inscription of Mangunsuko suspension bridge, Krinjing suspension bridge, low-cost apartments in Tanggul Rejo Village, Gunung Pring Village, and Gulon Village in Magelang Regency.
