President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has affirmed that his order to all ministries/state institutions to conduct a massive saving program was not for this year only. It was applied for the last year’s budget too.
“For what? In order to make capital expenditure bigger,” said President Jokowi answering reporters’ questions at a joint press conference after a bilateral meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (4/5) afternoon.
As reported previously, while delivering an opening speech to the plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (4/4), President Jokowi instructed all ministries/state institutions to make massive savings.
“I think a lot of the costs can be cut, a lot of money can be saved, and the money can be allocated for the capital expenditure. Check again for 2017 and then 2018,” said President Jokowi.
About the massive savings, the president explained, what to be done was shifting the procurement of goods and apparatus to the capital expenditure, so that the spending for development, the spending that can be enjoyed by the people would be larger.
“Therefore, yesterday I ordered all ministries and state agencies to check one by one thoroughly, which ones are routines, which ones are not that of use, move them to the capital spending,” said the president.
He also said that the savings would be still belonging to the respective ministry/institution and would not be moved to another, as long as for the capital expenditure.
