President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for supports in the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Morotai, North Maluku.
President Jokowi remarked his expectation in a meeting discussing the evaluation of the national strategic projects and program priorities in North Maluku Province, on Tuesday (2/28).
President Joko Widodo chaired the meeting attended by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignatius Jonan, and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya. North Maluku Governor Abdul Gani Kasuba was also at present.
In his introduction speech, the president stressed on the importance of supports for the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Morotai.
“I think the infrastructure supports, such as a good port, a power plant, logistics warehouses, as well as cold storage facilities are necessary,” he said.
In addition, the president also reminded the importance of education and vocational training to get human resources with higher quality and better characters.
President Joko Widodo viewed that North Maluku has the leading sectors whose potentials still can be developed further, like marine, aquaculture and its processing industry, as well as the private sector. The president said he appreciated the high economic growth of North Maluku at 5.7% in 2016, above the national average.
The president also urged that each province should focus on developing its own superior product. For example the Sunnylands in California, USA, has succeeded in developing golf outings and become the best golf destination in the world. Currently Sunnylands has 34 golf courses.
“We want all the provinces equal, and each has something to be proud of, so we will have better strongpoint to compete in regional and global level,” explained the president.(tpp)
