PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Persero) has ensured that the groundbreaking of Gilimas Port project, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province, will be conducted on 17 December 2016.
President Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III Orias Petrus Moedak said the development of Gilimas Port will be optimized for handling the commodities of corn and rice.
“The West Nusa Tenggara province produces 1 million tons of corn and 2.5 tons of rice,” said Orias at the BPPT building on Monday (12/5).
He said the Gilimas Port as well as the Calabai Port in Dompu, NTB are under the management of the local government.
Orias added that the development of the Gilimas Port and the Port Calabai Gilimas would be adjusted to accommodate the production capacity of 2.5 million tons of rice and 1 million tons of corn.
“This [the development project] is to support the optimization of the sea toll lane program,” he said.
Regarding the funding for the project, Orias did not reveal the amount reasoning that it was still under study. However he emphasized that the development of the Gilimas Port will use the capital expenditure budget of Pelindo III to finance it.
“Yes, it’s the Pelindo’s capex (capital expenditure),” he said.
Deputy Governor of the NTB province, Muhammad Amin, said NTB badly needed the development of the port since it has been included into the sea toll lanes. The second reason is for increasing food production in the province.
