Lara Djonggrang Restaurant, Dedication to Keeping Alive Indonesia’s Rich Heritage

Lara Djonggrang is the most famous of the restaurants belonging to the Tugu group, which is also behind Samarra, Dapur Babah Elite and Shanghai Blue. With its spectacular decoration, it is the favourite Indonesian restaurant of many expatriates and tourists. It is also where they will take their friends/family when they come to visit Jakarta.

Lara Djonggrang is a restaurant in Jakarta known for its dedication to keeping alive Indonesia’s rich heritage. Just like like Dapur Babah, Lara Djonggrang is a restaurant and a museum, housing priceless antiques and artifacts from the Kingdom era in Indonesia. Its prime location in Menteng, Jakarta makes it a truly precious gem in among culinary enthusiasts from all over. Inside Lara Djonggrang, is the La Bihzad Bar, which operates in the evening.

Meticulous details were visible in each and every corner of the “house”, where there are many rooms with different themes. This room is dominated with blue and red colour, with statues of Chinese Gods and other oriental accent.

The cuisine of Lara Djonggrang has been inspired by the royal journeys through the regions during the times of the King Hayam Wuruk, who held the reign of the Kingdom of Majapahit at the beginning of the 14th century.

Every dish has its own history, and as the countless variations of rice specialities will attest, all are equally good. Artfully presented and masterfully prepared, even simple dishes such as soybean cake fried in turmeric, tamarind-marinated prawns, and Balinese fish satay get a new lease on life.

Lara Djonggrang is very recommended. it remains a unique venue in Jakarta that anyone should visit at least once.
